SPAN 315: Intro Translation Spanish/ English
Students perform introductory translation assignments from Spanish to English and vice versa. They develop an understanding of translation theory through reading and class discussion and come to understand communicative translation and compare it to a direct, word-for-word approach. Problematic grammatical, discursive, and pragmatic issues are analyzed and the grammar of Spanish is reviewed in detail.
I took SPAN 315 to complete the MLO 2. The course was about translating phrases or text in English to Spanish and vice versa to find the same meaning of translating in English to Spanish or Spanish to English. I took this course with Dr. Oliva, he taught me how to use the different strategies to translate like borrowing, literal translation, description and others. In this class, I had to do some activities like writing and reading to improve my English skills. Also, this course was related to the SPAN 313 class, this class was about the language structure like syntax, morphologic, phonetic and others that are so important in translation. I am happy to be learning about translating because it will help me in the future goals i have, for example, at my graduate school, job, and most important it will help me to understand other cultures. I would like to learn more about translation because I want to learn more strategies to translate easier and better from English to Spanish or English to Spanish. To conclude, this class was very interesting because I learned strategies to translate faster in addition I learned to work with others.
