SPAN 321: Masterpieces of Hispanic literature
Course description
Reading and discussion of selected masterworks of literature as they reflect the historical, political, and social context of the Peninsular Spanish experience. Students will be introduced to reading and writing critically, and discussing both form and content within these works. All discussions will be carried out in Spanish.
In this class, I studied about Spain literature, poems and prose peninsular; I learned that in literature we can find the story of the author narrating an event of his life or some feeling. This class helped me identify literary movements as "La Edad Media", " Renacimiento y Barroco", “Siglo XVIII”, “Siglo XX” and more. What I learned is to analyze the poems and know the purpose of the authors like Lope de Rueda, Bernal Diaz del Castillo, Garcilaso de la Vega among others. In the same way, read "El sí de las niñas", " Lazarillo de Tormes", " Coplas de mi padre". At I learned that some readings were a criticism of society metaphorically by the events that happened in Spain. This class was connected to SPAN 304 because in both classes the literary analysis was practiced in the same way to look at the literary figures we found in the other readings. In the future, I hope to further develop my literary skills in the middle ages to better understand lyric and epic poetry.
